The NJMEA Middle School Choral Festival is open to all choirs in grades 5 – 9. This annual event is held at two locations with one in the north at Rutgers University and the other in the south at Rowan University.

Purpose

The purpose of the Junior High School-Middle School Choral Festival is to provide a non-competitive atmosphere through which choral groups are given the opportunity to perform for and listen to their peers. The festival also provides for the development of choral art through the performance of fine choral literature.

Performance

Each chorus may sing a program chosen by its director to include three selections only, not to exceed a total of 10 to 12 minutes in performance time. Directors are also encouraged to share approximately 2 minutes of warm ups in addition to their program.

Adjudicators

Two adjudicators for each performance site are chosen by the festival committee for their experience in the choral field. Adjudicators will offer written and verbal critiques of each group’s performance. This is not a competition therefore performing groups are not rated against each other. Comments should be encouraging as well as constructive.
